'It's really useful because we can look at the information from all different angles and it's so easy to use,' says Ms Hamilton. 'It will help us rationalise and standardise our suppliers and products, which in turn means we can get better prices.'

Development Team

The SpendInsight Development Team was built up from

  • @UK PLC
  • Goldsmiths, University of London
  • London Procurement Programme
  • University of Reading

The project was a follow on by @UK PLC research from a successful KTP funded Fraud Detection project using Artificial Intelligence Techniques.

The KTP office at University of Reading and KTP consultant Paul Naylor helped @UK PLC, University of Reading and Goldsmiths University of London, bid for a 'mega KTP' with 3 associates and 2 Universities supporting the bid.  This resulted in the funding from KTP for the 12 person team over the 3 years of the project.

Two of the KTP associates Paul Roberts and Matthew Brown are expected to receive PhD's as a result of their contributions to science during the project.  Dr Richard Barraclough all ready had a PhD in Mathematics at the outset of the project and now heads up the SpendInsight team.

London Procurement Programme discovered the project, when it was seeking raw data to prove the algorithms, and provided a challenging test site in the OSEL trusts.  The system passed the challenge with flying colours and LPP then provided resources to ensure that the front end reporting was tailored to the trusts requirements and rolled the system out to the LPP member trusts.

Richard Sheppard an Excel expert was brought in by Chris Hope of LPP to ensure that the data pack was developed to the highest standards, and all the project members are delighted with the outcome.
